Albert Dohmen (born June 17, 1956 in Krefeld ) is a German opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Dohmen has already played children's roles in opera performances . From 1970 to 1974 he studied oboe in Essen . In 1976 he won first prize at the national singing competition in Berlin . Dohmen then studied law at the University of Cologne from 1976 to 1982 . He received private singing lessons from the soprano Gladys Kuchta . In 1982 he came to the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as a soloist and was then a soloist at this house from 1984 to 1985. In 1986 he moved to the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden . Dohmen has been working as a freelancer since 1991.

His international breakthrough came in 1997 with the title role in Wozzeck under the direction of Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic at the Salzburg Easter Festival under the direction of Peter Stein .
