Alex Kipchirchir Rono

Alex Kipchirchir Rono (born November 26, 1984 in Sergoit near Eldoret , Rift Valley Province ) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner .

Life

Kipchirchir began running at Litein High School, where he also played soccer , hockey, and basketball . After he had to drop out of school in 2001, a football friend introduced him to the former 10,000 meter world champion Moses Tanui , in whose training camp he trained in 2002. In July of this year, he won the World Junior Athletics Championships in Kingston (Jamaica) over 800 meters in 1: 46.59 min.

On July 7, 2003 he set a junior world record in the mile run with 3: 50.25 minutes , which lasted until July 3, 2009, when it was broken by William Biwott Tanui .

Two years later he also made the leap into the top of the adult class. At the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki he was seventh over 1500 m in 3: 40.43 minutes.

In March 2006 he won the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne over 800 m in 1: 45.88 min. In August, the African Athletics Championships in Bambous were followed by a double victory over 800 m (1: 46.62 min) and 1500 m (3: 46.54 min).
