Bobrowice (German Alt Bewersdorf , also: Bewersdorf ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community of Sławno ( Schlawe ) in the powiat Sławieński .

Geographical location

Bobrowice is located in Western Pomerania , four kilometers southwest of the district town of Sławno ( Schlawe ).

The highest point south of the village reaches 68 meters above sea level. The terrain drops to the north to the glacial valley of the Moszczenica ( Motze ) down to 29 meters.

Neighboring towns of Bobrowice are: Rzyszczewo ( Ristow ) in the west, Boleszewo ( Rötzenhagen ) in the north, Sławno , Bobrowiczki ( Neu Bewersdorf ) and Kwasowo ( Quatzow ) in the east and Smardzewo ( Schmarsow ) in the south.

Place name

Earlier forms of the name are: Beuerdorpe , Beuertorp , Low German: Bewerdorp . The place name was also used in the Stolp district before 1945 (today in Polish: Bobrownik ). The name is probably derived from " beaver ", meaning "beaver village". A parallel to this is today's Polish naming, as "bóbr" means beaver in Polish. The name Alt Bewersdorf was only introduced to distinguish it from Neu Bewersdorf , which was created in the early 19th century .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1357 when the ducal brothers Bogislaw V , Barnim VI. and Wartislaw V. enfeoffed the council and citizenship of Schlawe with the village. This made Bewersdorf one of the Schlawer city villages, as well as Warschow (now Polish: Warszkowo) and Schwenzenhagen (later: Coccejendorf, Polish: Radoslaw). In 1510 a Tetzlaff Ristow ceded the mill in Bewersdorf to the town of Schlawe, who then leased it to the farmer Laurentius Peter .

On February 25, 1569, the Kolberg government awarded the town of Schlawe a Salvaguardia to protect its owned villages Warschow and Bewersdorf. Around 1780 Bewersdorf had an arable farm with a sheep farm, a water mill, a jug, 17 farmers, three half-farmers , two cottagers , seven Büdner , a blacksmith and a schoolmaster and a total of 28 households.

In 1818 Bewersdorf had 270 inhabitants. Their number rose to 457 in 1885 and was 369 in 1939.

Until 1945 Bewersdorf belonged to the district of Schlawe i. Pom. in Administrative district Köslin of Pomerania Province . The competent registry office and the competent local court were in Schlawe.

Towards the end of World War II , Alt Bewersdorf was occupied by Soviet troops on March 7, 1945 . After the end of the war, Alt Bewersdorf was placed under Polish administration together with all of Western Pomerania . In the fall of 1945, the local residents began to be evicted , which was completed by Christmas. Alt Bewersdorf was renamed Bobrowice .

The village is now part of the Gmina Sławno in the Powiat Sławieński of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship . Until 1998 the place belonged to the then Slupsk Voivodeship .

Bewersdorf district

Before 1945, the two villages of Alt Bewersdorf and Neu Bewersdorf formed the administrative district of Bewersdorf (official seat: Alt Bewersdorf). It was in the district of Schlawe i. Pom. in the administrative district of Köslin in the Prussian province of Pomerania . The last mayor of Alt Bewersdorf was Paul Burow from 1929 to 1945 .

church

Protestant church

Before 1945 the inhabitants of Alt Bewersdorf were exclusively of Protestant denomination. The village belonged with Neu Bewersdorf , Alt Warschow , Neu Warschow and Coccejendorf to the parish Schlawe, in which two clergy held office. It was in the church district of Schlawe in the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . In 1940 the parish had a total of 11,000 parishioners. The last German clergy before 1945 were Superintendent Eduard Block and Pastor Friedrich Gehrmann .

Today the place belongs to the parish Koszalin ( Köslin ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Roman Catholic Church

Since the population exchange in 1945, the now Polish inhabitants of Bobrowice have been predominantly Roman Catholic . The village continues to be ecclesiastically oriented towards Sławno , but now, of course, into the Catholic parish belonging to the Sławno deanery in the Köslin-Kolberg diocese of the Catholic Church in Poland .

school

A schoolmaster was already working in Bewersdorf at the end of the 18th century. In 1928 and 1929 a new two-class school was built. The old school building was converted into rental apartments. The last German headmaster was Willi Kosin from 1921 to 1945 .

traffic

There is a connection to the state road 6 Danzig - Stettin (former German Reichsstraße 2 , today also European road 28 ) at the confluence of the main road from Polanów ( Pollnow ) via Lejkowo ( Leikow ) and Żegocino ( Segenthin ). The PKP line No. 202 Danzig - Stargard (Pomerania) runs through the northern Feldmark of the village. The next train station is Karwice ( Karwitz ).
