Andreas Butz (organ builder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Butz (* in Roßwangen , Upper Austria ; † February 25, 1657 in Passau ) worked mainly in Passau as an organ builder .

Life

Andreas Butz was born, presumably between 1580 and 1590, in Roßwangen, which at that time belonged to Upper Austria and was administered from Innsbruck. In 1612 Butz (also: Putz, Puz and Buz ) is referred to as an organ maker who lives “the zeidt in saltzburg” (currently in Salzburg) and that he “went from Salzpurg geen Passaw” (from Salzburg to Passau ) wool. In June 1613 he was accepted as a “resident” in the city of Passau.

Initially he worked with the Passau organ maker Matthias Aigner, later with Niklaus Lamprecht and Johannes Freundt . On January 29, 1621, the Bishop of Brixen gave him his own coat of arms, which among other things shows three organ pipes on a blue background in the shield. From 1636 at the latest he was a member of the Council of the City of Passau and between 1645 and 1657 he was also the caretaker of the Hl.-Geist-Spital. In 1640 or 1641 Johann (?) Puz went on a pilgrimage to St. Wolfgang . He visited the pastor of Thalgau , to whom he then sent a cost estimate with "beӱkhombende [m] visor" for a positive , the purchase did not materialize. He delivered his organs, which were of excellent quality, mainly to Bavaria , Tyrol and Upper Austria .

His son Jakob († October 30, 1693 in Tulln ) and grandson Martin (born November 10, 1666 and † March 9, 1707 in Passau) were also active as organ builders.
