Anselm Dreher (born December 21, 1940 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) is a German gallery owner and publisher.

Life

After graduating from high school, Anselm Dreher studied art education and painting with the informal painter Fred Thieler at the Berlin University of Fine Arts and education at the Free University of Berlin . In 1967 the Galerie Anselm Dreher was founded and the first Berlin graphic ring, which sold original etchings by well-known artists at low prices. Until 1972 he was a lecturer in printmaking techniques. From 1972 to 1984 collaboration with Günter Grass and publication of his etchings. Since 1970 he has been married to the conceptual painter Margarete Dreher , great-great-great-granddaughter of the poet and doctor Justinus Kerner .

In 1968 Dreher was co-founder and 1982–1984 chairman of the Berlin Art Dealers Interest Group (IBK). In 1978 he was the initiator of the “Art Days Berlin” for the IBK (forerunner of Berlin Art Week). In 1983 Dreher was the initiator of the “Art Concentrated” joint program of Berlin Galleries (forerunner of the Gallery Weekend) and the “Berliner Block” Berlin Galleries at Art Cologne . In 1984 Dreher was the initiator of the "Art Mile" Berlin galleries on Kurfürstendamm (forerunner of the Berlin Sculpture Boulevard).

1971 Relocation of the gallery to Berlin-Wilmersdorf . This was followed by the start of an international gallery program with a focus on minimal and conceptual art as well as thematic exhibitions in an effort to confront the painting-heavy scene in West Berlin with international art movements.
