Apple tree is a locality in the mountainous city of Solingen .

geography

Apple tree is located in the Gräfrath district, right on the border with the forest . To the north, the terrain slopes steeply in parts towards the Ehrener Mühle farm and the Nümmener Bach . Directly on the small Hofschaft past the old railway embankment leads the so-called corkscrew path , now used as a footpath corkscrew route . Behind it lies the high-rise Fuhr estate .

etymology

Often Bergisch court names can be traced back to a single tree. This probably also applies to the apple tree, perhaps there was such a tree next to the settlement .

history

The apple tree residential area was not built until the second half of the 19th century. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, a house with eleven inhabitants is given. In 1895 the district had two houses with twelve inhabitants, in 1905 one house and 13 inhabitants are given.

In 1887, the Solingen-Wuppertal-Vohwinkel railway line was laid directly past the village . A small pedestrian bridge was built so that residents could safely cross the railway line and get to their house. In 1972 this was demolished due to the decreasing traffic on the railway line.

With the city association of Groß-Solingen in 1929, Apfelbaum became a district of Solingen. Today the corkscrew route forms the border between the city district and the forest. Access to the Apfelbaum farm from the Fuhr is only possible by crossing the hiking trail.
