geography

Eckstumpf is located in the Wald district of Solingen , on the border with the neighboring district of Gräfrath . The place is located on a ridge that rises between the Nümmener and Demmeltrath Bach at Eckstumpf to around 230 meters. The former Hof Hahnenhaus is in the neighboring village . To the northeast of Eckstumpf is Nümmen , to the south are the localities of Heide and Foche .

etymology

The Eckstumpf farm could have got its name from the tree stumps left behind after clearing . The first part of the word Eck- could be borrowed from the word oak , that is, oak stumps could be meant.

history

The Eckstumpf court is drawn in 1715 on the map of Erich Philipp Ploennies immediately adjacent to the Hahnenhaus court as Ecſtump . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 lists the place as a Eichstump and the Prussian first survey of 1844 as a Eckstump. In the topographical map of the Düsseldorf administrative district from 1871, the courtyard is shown as a corner stump .

In 1815/16 there were 30 people living in the village. In 1830, the Eckstump, known as a hamlet, belonged to the mayor's office in Gräfrath ; 35 people lived in the village at that time. In 1832 Eckstumpf was part of the Honschaft (Ketz-) Berg within the Gräfrath mayor . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had six residential buildings, a factory or mill and ten agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 29 residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list the place in 1871 with nine houses and 67 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, eleven houses with 64 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the district had ten houses with 49 inhabitants, in 1905 eleven houses and 74 inhabitants are given.

After the establishment of the Mairie and later mayor of Gräfrath , the Eckstumpf farm was located directly on the municipal boundary between Gräfrath and Wald. The Grenzstraße (today's Heresbachstraße) marked this municipality boundary. The Hahnenhaus court was on the forest side. With the town union of Groß-Solingen in 1929, both courts became part of Solingen. According to today's city district boundaries, Eckstumpf belongs to the forest.
