geography

Kohlfurther Eickholz was east of Schafenhaus and Altenfeld on a hill above the Wupper in the Gräfrath district . State road 74 , which has been converted into a motor vehicle , runs to the south- east and crosses the Wupper east of the village. South of Kohlfurther Eickholz lie the Fleußmühle , as well as the Hofschaft Schrodtberg and Kohlfurth as well as the junction Solingen-Kohlfurth of the L 74. A few hundred meters upstream is the Aue location .

etymology

The name of the location has had two components since 1935, when the name Kohlfurth was added to make it easier to distinguish it from the other Eichholz farm in Höhscheid , from which the local Eichenstrasse takes its name. An Eichholz or Eickholz is an oak forest that must have been at this point.

history

The place originated in the second half of the 19th century and appears for the first time in the 1893 edition of the Solingen measuring table sheet of the official topographic map 1: 25,000 on maps. Eichholz belonged to the mayor's office in Gräfrath .

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province from 1888, two houses with 14 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the district had two houses with eight inhabitants, in 1905 two houses and 15 inhabitants are given.

With the city association of Groß-Solingen in 1929, Eichholz became a district of Solingen. After the town union there were two farms called Eichholz in Solingen, the Höhscheider Eichholz and the one in Graefath. To make it easier to differentiate, the town in Graefrath received the addition of Kohlfurther Eichholz on April 26, 1935 . The name Eickholz was later changed from the word Eichholz , and the city map from 1939 already lists the place as Kohlfurther Eickholz. The spelling with k has been preserved to this day, as has the field name itself, which can still be found in the Solingen city map. The buildings belonging to the place were probably demolished in the 1980s, on the measuring table sheets of the official topographic map 1: 25,000 buildings are still shown until the 1989 edition.

State road 74 was built in the early 1970s from Müngsten in the direction of the Sonnborner Kreuz , a first section from Müngsten to Kohlfurth was opened on September 5, 1973, the remainder of the route, with the Wupper crossing at Kohlfurther Eickholz, took place until 1975.
