etymology

The name of the Neuenkulle is derived from the neighboring old court name Kullen and indicates a later settlement than von Kullen. The name Kullen probably derives from a stone and a loam formerly located there, i.e. a quarry and a loam .

history

Neuenkulle was probably created at the beginning of the 19th century. The court name Kullen has been documented as Kaulen since 1638. Nevertheless, the courtyard is not recorded in the map series Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, but the road connection between the Schlagbaum and Kohlfurth , today's Kuller Straße, is.

In the first half of the 19th century the place belonged to the Honschaft (Ketz-) Berg of the mayor's office in Gräfrath . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 shows no development at the place where the apartment is located; the Prussian first photo from 1844 shows it unlabeled. The place is not recorded in the topographic map of the Düsseldorf administrative district from 1871.

The after Statistics and topography of the district of Dusseldorf in 1832 as Ackergut and factory apartments categorized place had at this time a house and a farm building. At that time, twelve residents lived in the place, all of whom were evangelicals. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list the place in 1871 with four houses and 18 inhabitants. In the parish dictionary for the Rhineland province from 1888, 16 houses with 188 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the district had 32 houses with 354 inhabitants, in 1905 39 houses and 455 inhabitants are given.

Today's Kuller Straße formed the municipal boundary between Solingen and Gräfrath, the name Kuller Weg or Kuller Straße has been used for this street since the 19th century. The Kuller Straße was important for Solingen because the carts from the direction of Kohlfurth could avoid the incline on the Cronenberger Straße. For Gräfrath, the road was of little importance as a border road lying far away, since both cities were equally obliged to maintain the road, a conflict of interests arose from this situation that lasted up to the city union.

With the city association of Groß-Solingen in 1929, the Neuenkulle became a district of Solingen. The Neuenkulle residential area is still listed under this name in the official city map from 1929. In the maps that appear later, however, the Neuenkulle no longer appears as a place name.
