Friedenstal is a locality in the Solingen district of Gräfrath .

geography

Friedenstal is located in the valley of the Wupper a little above the banks of the Wupper between the farm Oben zum Holz and the Flockertsholzer Bach at about 140 meters above sea level . Flockertsberg is located to the northwest , Steinsiepen residential area is to the north, state road 74 , which has been converted into a motor vehicle, runs along the eastern bank of the Wupper in the Wuppertal urban area, and the third Kotten residential area is located immediately south of the course of the Wupper .

etymology

It is possible that the relatively new name was chosen for ideological reasons, so it should designate a valley of peace . The official street name was Friedenstal on April 26, 1935, but the name was popular earlier.

history

The location probably emerged at the turn of the 20th century and belonged to the city of Gräfrath at that time. There, the Friedenstal House was operated directly on the banks of the Wupper, a large non-alcoholic restaurant with at times 1,000 seats. The building of the former restaurant with the inscription is still there, but is now used as a residential building.

With the association of towns in Groß-Solingen in 1929, the area of Friedenstal became a district of Solingen. At Friedenstal, the so-called Devil's Bridge, built in 1899, led over the Wupper, the name of which was probably derived from the Devil's Cliffs to the north. At times, tolls were also required on the bridge . In the course of the construction work for Landesstrasse 74, the Wupper bed was relocated, and the Devil's Bridge fell victim to the construction work in 1975, which was replaced by the concrete bridge that is still in existence today .
