Apostle Festival
As apostles festivals or apostle days referred to religious festivals , the memory of all or to individual apostles are celebrated.
Days of remembrance of the individual apostles were gradually introduced in the church with the increasing veneration of saints, but Peter and Paulus ( June 29 ), Philip and James the Elder. J. ( May 1st , Roman Catholic May 3rd ), Simon and Judas ( October 28th ) received a day together in the Western Church.
A festival of all apostles celebrated by the African Church was attempted by Bonifacius IV in 610; but it was lost in the feast of All Saints' Day , which is why Bonifacius VIII prescribed St. Andrea's Day ( November 30 , Georgian May 12 ) to be celebrated as the day of remembrance for all apostles.
Further apostle days are:
- Confession of Simon Peter ( January 18 )
- Matthias ( February 24th , Orthodox August 9th ),
- Kathedra Petri ( February 22nd , previously also January 18th ),
- Simon Zelotes (Orthodox May 10th ),
- Judas Thaddäus (Armenian July 7th and July 21st and December 1st ),
- James the Elder ( July 25th , Orthodox April 30th , Coptic April 12th , Ethiopian December 28th ),
- Apostles division ( July 15 ), on this day, according to tradition, the apostles separated to preach the Gospel throughout the world
- St. Peter ad Vincula ( August 1st , Orthodox January 16th )
- Bartholomew ( August 24th , Orthodox June 11th , Greek August 25th ),
- Matthew ( September 21 , Greek November 16 ),
- James the Younger (Orthodox October 9th ),
- Philip (Catholic in Russia November 14th , Anglican May 1st , Orthodox November 14th and July 31st , Coptic November 18th , Armenian November 17th )
- Thomas ( December 21st , Catholic since 1970 July 3rd , Greek October 6th ),
- Johannes ( December 27th , previously May 6th , Orthodox October 8th and May 15th ).
Apostle festivals in the broader sense are the feast days of those who are also called apostles . These include a .:
- Pauli Conversion ( January 25th ),
- James the Righteous ( May 3rd , Evangelical October 23rd , Orthodox also Sunday after Christmas ),
- Andronicus of Pannonia ( May 17th ),
- Barnabas ( June 11th ),
- Silas Silvanus ( July 13 , Evangelical January 26 or February 10 , Orthodox January 4 and July 30 , Armenian July 30 and April 9 and October 11 )

Most of the apostle festivals are now only celebrated within the church, even in the Eastern Church only by the monks; the Protestant Church has dropped the celebration of the same or postponed it to the next preceding or following Sunday.
