Assassin's Creed Valhalla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an action-adventure - video game , which by Ubisoft Montreal developed by Ubisoft is laid. It is the twelfth part of the main series by Assassin's Creed and the sequel to the Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which was released in 2018 . The plot is set in historical fiction with actual historical facts and takes place in the setting of the Vikings .

Gameplay

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an open world - action-adventure game , the story quests main and numerous optional side missions composed of several. The player takes on the role of Eivor (/ ˈeɪvɔːr /), a Viking robber who leads his Viking colleagues against the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms . The player has the choice to play Eivor as either a man or a woman and can customize Eivor's hair , war paint , clothing , armor and tattoos . The variety of weapons available to the player has been expanded to include such weapons as flails and great swords . Combat has been changed in such a way that almost every weapon, including shields, can be dual waged, and every piece of gear the player collects is unique. The eagle eye mechanic from previous titles will return in the form of "Odin Sight". The player's companion animal is a raven named Synin ( Old Norse for "insight") and can be used to scout out nearby areas, much like previous bird companions in Origins and Odyssey did to identify enemies and aspects of the game world from a distance before Eivor goes into battle. The stealth aspects will come to the fore both when traversing the game world and in combat. The concept of "social camouflage" from previous games of Assassin's Creed will return: Eivor can not only hide from enemies in stationary environmental objects, but can also pull down his hood and slip into certain crowds to use it as cover. Eivor can fake death, use his raven to distract the guards , and he can access a hidden blade to commit an assassination attempt almost instantly . The main boss characters in the game all have a path of approach, tactics and weapon selection to be assassinated by a single attack, but can still be defeated in numerous other ways.

Valhalla will have a similar structure of main missions and a number of optional side missions. While the main storyline in previous Assassin's Creed games tended to move linearly through the main sections of the game world, in Valhalla the player often returns to the main settlement and previously visited areas as information about the new areas of England is obtained from the Vikings through exploration or obtained through contacts. Not all missions require violent targets; some can be accomplished through diplomatic means. The players' decisions through conversation or game options affect the characters and their political alliances with other non-player characters. The game will rely less on a traditional leveling system and instead will focus more on skill selection through skill trees chosen by the player as Eivor progresses in the game. The level of difficulty of the enemies is rated based on the skill of the player.

The development team wanted to introduce a wider range of hostile archetypes in Valhalla than in previous Assassin's Creed titles because they wanted the player to be surprised by the game over and over again, even after tens of hours of gameplay. Enemy archetypes will have their own special abilities that they can use against the player. Narrative Director Darby McDevitt said the game has 25 unique opposing archetypes, and each "has a unique way of challenging the player". Some enemy types can coordinate special attacks with each other. Enemies can also use objects in the area to their advantage. Some enemies are also able to adapt to the player's actions and combat and find ways of self-defense . Enemies can show personality even during combat. While some may be intimidated by Eivor and fight more defensively, others may be more aggressive.

Conquest battles, a feature introduced to the series in Odyssey , are returning. They are known as "attacks" and see the player leading Viking armies to attack fortifications. Raids are smaller battles in which the player leads a raid group to attack a target and secure resources for his settlement. The player can build a raid group by recruiting non-player characters to help them out. The player can create a Viking mercenary or Jomsviking who can be recruited by other players to appear as a non-playable character in these games; the player receives additional rewards in the game for successful missions in which his Jomsviking takes part.

The game will see the return of settlements that have been missing from the series since Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag . However, where these settlements offered the player passive game bonuses, the Valhalla settlements will regain importance. Game director Ashraf Ismail put it this way: "[because] a lot of what you do in the game world will flow into the settlement at the end of the day so it can grow and prosper. Quests start and end in the settlement, and the player can control the construction of certain types of buildings, which in turn has advantages for gameplay. To build these structures, the player must lead the Vikings on raids to collect resources. In addition, the player can forge diplomatic weddings to establish relationships between the clans As with Odyssey , as Eivor, the player will be able to explore romantic options for Eivor, including same-sex relationships.

Although the use of sea transport has returned, sea battles have ceased. The longship of Eivor will rather serve as a means of travel during raids and when escaping after land battles and not be used in combat with other naval ships. In addition, the player can participate in a variety of activities, such as: B. Hunting , fishing , fighting with other Vikings, drinking competitions and flying challenges, which Ubisoft called " Viking rap battle [s] ".

Locations

The movement of the Great Heathen Army in England in AD 865 during the Viking Expansion, near the time Valhalla takes place and which depicts some of the kingdoms the player will explore in the game

In 873 AD, war and overpopulation in Norway prompted Eivor to lead his Viking clan in an effort to establish new lands in Anglo-Saxon England as the Vikings expanded across Europe . The clan and other Vikings that make up the Great Pagan Army come into conflict with the kingdoms of Wessex , Northumbria , East Anglia and Mercia over the next few years . Eivor's clan will face forces led by the leaders of these kingdoms, including Alfred the Great , King of Wessex. During this time, Eivor encounters the Hidden and joins their fight against the Order of the Ancients. Cities that can be explored include Winchester , London, and York . Parts of Norway are also included.

As with the previous games in the series, Valhalla also has a narrative setting in this day and age. This story follows Layla Hassan, a character from Origins and Odyssey . Valhalla will also include story elements related to the Isu, who as part of the lore of the Assassin's Creed series is an advanced civilization that existed before humanity.

background

In April 2019 it was announced that Ubisoft Montreal is working on a twelfth part of the Assassin's Creed series under the working title Assassin's Creed Kingdom . The twelfth part should revolve around the Vikings , as emerged from an Easter egg from Ubisoft in the game Tom Clancy's The Division 2 . In the meantime, many media also referred to the new game with the supposed title Assassin's Creed Ragnarok . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2020, at which Ubisoft usually thought of announcing its titles, has been canceled. On April 29, 2020, Ubisoft announced in a livestream that the twelfth Assassin's Creed part will be titled Valhalla and confirmed the Viking setting. A first trailer was also published with the live stream.
