Haugsdorf is a market town with 1551 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Hollabrunn district in Lower Austria .

geography

Haugsdorf is located in the northern Weinviertel in Lower Austria on the border with the Czech Republic , where the shopping town of Excalibur City is located. The places Auggenthal, Haugsdorf and Jetzelsdorf are in the Pulkau valley , while Kleinhaugsdorf is in the hills to the north of it.

The municipality is bypassed from north to south by Weinviertler Straße B 303, which connects Znojmo to Stockerau . The border crossing is in Kleinhaugsdorf.

The area of ​​the market town covers 21.23 square kilometers. 1.81 percent of the area is forested.

In the course of the Babenberg securing of the border in the Pulkau valley after 1050, a follower Azili settled in the form of an "old hoof". The name Haugsdorf emerged only secondary after considerable settlement changes.

North of Jetzelsdorf on loess slopes in the corridor of house vineyards is one of the only two Austrian occurrences of the semi-shrub Radmelde , a post-glacial relic .

economy

In 2010 there were 103 agricultural and forestry holdings (222 in 1999). Of these, 39 were full-time farms that farmed 85 percent of the area. The manufacturing sector employed 48 people in fourteen factories, the majority of them in construction and in water supply and waste disposal. In the service sector, 251 employees were employed in 76 companies, 102 in social and public services and 90 in trade (as of 2011).

Haugsdorf is on Weinviertler Straße B303, which is the extension of Weinviertel expressway S3 from Hollabrunn to the state border near Kleinhaugsdorf. Traffic on the Pulkautalbahn was stopped in 1988; the station is privately owned.
