Barletta (wine)

Barletta are wines from the southern Italian province of Bari in the Apulia region . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1977 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted within the province of Bari in the municipalities of Barletta and in parts of the municipalities of Andria and Trani and in all municipal areas of San Ferdinando di Puglia and in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani in Trinitapoli .

Different wines are produced and sold under the name Barletta DOC :

  • Barletta rosso - at least 70% must be made from the Uva di Troia grape variety . A maximum of 30% other red grape varieties that are permitted in the Apulia region may be added. However, it must not contain more than 10% of the Malbec grape variety .
  • Barletta rosato - at least 70% must be made from the Uva di Troia grape variety. A maximum of 30% other red grape varieties that are permitted in the Apulia region may be added.
  • Barletta Bianco - at least 60% must be made from the Malvasia bianca grape variety . A maximum of 40% other white grape varieties that are permitted in the Apulia region may be added.
  • Barletta Malvasia bianca - at least 90% must be made from the Malvasia bianca grape variety. A maximum of 10% other white grape varieties that are permitted in the Apulia region may be added.
  • Barletta Uva di Troia - at least 90% must be made from the Uva di Troia grape variety. A maximum of 10% other red grape varieties that are permitted in the Apulia region may be added.
