Lizzano (wine)

The name Lizzano DOC stands for red , rosé and white wines from the southern Italian province of Taranto in the Apulia region . Sometimes they are also developed as young wine ("Novello"), sparkling wine ( Frizzante ) and sparkling wine ( Spumante ). The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1988 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted within the province of Taranto in the municipalities of Lizzano and Faggiano and in parts of the municipality of Taranto .

The Lizzano appellation provides for the following types of wine and their grape varieties:

  • Lizzano Rosato (also as Novello, Frizzante and Spumante) and Lizzano Rosso: (also as Novello and Frizzante) must be made from at least 60–80% of the Negroamaro grape variety . A maximum of 40% Montepulciano , Sangiovese , Bombino nero , Pinot nero (individually or together) may be added. Malvasia nera di Lecce and / or Malvasia nera di Brindisi may be added up to a maximum of 10%.
  • Lizzano Bianco: (also as frizzante and sparkling wine ) must be made from at least 40–60% of the Trebbiano toscano grape variety . A maximum of 30% Chardonnay and / or Pinot bianco may be added. Furthermore, a maximum of 10% Malvasia bianca lunga and a maximum of 25% Sauvignon and / or Bianco d'Alessano may be contained in the cuvée .
  • Lizzano Negroamaro (Rosso and Rosato): must be made from at least 85% Negroamaro grapes . A maximum of 15% Malvasia Nera di Lecce, Malvasia Nera di Brindisi, Sangiovese and / or Pinot nero (individually or together) may be added.
  • Lizzano Malvasia nera : must be made from at least 85% of the grape varieties Malvasia Nera di Lecce and / or Malvasia Nera di Brindisi. A maximum of 15% Negroamaro, Montepulciano, Sangiovese and / or Pinot nero (individually or together) may be added.
