Copertino (wine)
The name Copertino stands for red and rosé wine from the southern Italian province of Lecce in the Apulia region . The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1976 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.

The Copertino denomination stipulates that at least 70% of the wines must be made from the Negroamaro grape variety . A maximum of 30% of the following grape varieties (individually or together) may be added: Malvasia nera di Brindisi , Malvasia nera di Lecce , Montepulciano and / or Sangiovese . However, no more than 15% of the Sangiovese variety may be added in total.
Growing area
Cultivation is permitted within the province of Lecce in the municipalities of Copertino , Carmiano , Arnesano and Monteroni di Lecce and in parts of the municipalities of Galatina and Lequile .

- Color: ruby red of varying intensity with light orange tones as it ripens
- Odor: persistent vinous
- Taste: dry with a bitter aftertaste, velvety, tasty, full-bodied
- Alcohol content: at least 12.0 % by volume , from 12.5% by volume the designation “Riserva” may be used
- Acidity : at least 5.0 g / l
- Dry extract: at least 24.0 g / l
Copertino Rosato
- Color: salmon pink, sometimes tending to light cherry red
- Odor: slightly vinous, clear and reasonably persistent
- Taste: dry, without unevenness, with a herbal base note and combined with a pleasant slightly bitter aftertaste
- Alcohol content: at least 12.0 % by volume
- Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
- Dry extract: at least 18.0 g / l
