The name Copertino stands for red and rosé wine from the southern Italian province of Lecce in the Apulia region . The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1976 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.

The Copertino denomination stipulates that at least 70% of the wines must be made from the Negroamaro grape variety .
