Gioia del Colle (wine)

The name Gioia del Colle stands for white , red and rosé wines from the southern Italian province of Bari in the Apulia region . Some of them are also developed as dessert wines ("Dolce") or liqueur wines ("Liquoroso Dolce"). The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1987 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted within the province of Bari in the municipalities of Acquaviva delle Fonti , Adelfia , Casamassima , Cassano delle Murge , Castellana Grotte , Conversano , Gioia del Colle , Grumo Appula , Noci , Putignano , Rutigliano , Sammichele di Bari , Sannicandro di Bari , Santeramo in Colle and Turi, as well as the parts of the Altamura municipality that do not belong to the Gravina production zone.

Different wines are produced and sold under the name Gioia del Colle DOC :

  • Gioia del Colle Rosso and Gioia del Colle Rosato - must consist of at least 50–60% of the Primitivo grape variety . A maximum of 30–50% Montepulciano , Sangiovese , Negroamaro , Malvasia nera , individually or together, may be added, with a maximum of 10% Malvasia.
  • Gioia del Colle bianco - must consist of at least 50–70% of the Trebbiano grape variety . A maximum of 30–50% other white grape varieties that are permitted in the “Murgia centrale” production zone may be added, individually or together.
  • Gioia del Colle Primitivo - must consist of 100% Primitivo grape variety .
  • Gioia del Colle Aleatico - must consist of at least 85% Aleatico grapes . A maximum of 15% Negroamaro, Malvasia nera, Primitivo, individually or together, may be added.
