Terra d'Otranto (wine)
Terra d'Otranto stands for red , rosé and white wines from the southern Italian provinces of Brindisi , Lecce and Taranto in the Apulia region . Sometimes they are also expanded as sparkling wine ( Frizzante ) and sparkling wine ( Spumante ). Some of the red wines are allowed to carry the title “Riserva”. The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2011 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.
Growing area
Cultivation is permitted within the provinces of Brindisi , Lecce and Taranto .

The Terra d'Otranto DOC appellation provides for the following types of wine and their grape varieties:
- Terra d'Otranto Bianco , also as a sparkling wine: must consist of at least 75% Chardonnay grapes . A maximum of 25% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the “Salento Arco Jonico-Salentino” production zone may be added.
- Terra d'Otranto Rosso and Terra d'Otranto Rosato: must consist of at least 75% of the grape varieties Negroamaro , Primitivo , Malvasia Nera di Brindisi , Malvasia Nera di Lecce and / or Malvasia Nera di Basilicata (individually or together). A maximum of 25% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the “Salento Arco Jonico-Salentino” production zone may be added. Rosato is also developed as a sparkling wine and frizzante.
- Wines are produced under the name “ Terra d'Otranto… ”, followed by the respective grape variety , which must consist of at least 90% of the respective grape variety. A maximum of 10% other analogue grape varieties that are permitted in the "Salento Arco Jonico-Salentino" production zone may be added:
- Terra d'Otranto Chardonnay , also as a frizzante
- Terra d'Otranto Malvasia Bianca , also called frizzante
- Terra d'Otranto Fiano , also known as a frizzante
- Terra d'Otranto Verdeca , also known as a frizzante
- Terra d'Otranto Aleatico
- Terra d'Otranto Malvasia Nera
- Terra d'Otranto Sangiovese
