Colline Joniche Tarantine

The name Colline Joniche Tarantine stands for red , rosé and white wines from the southern Italian province of Taranto in the Apulia region . Sometimes they are also developed as sparkling wine ( Spumante ), young wine ( Novello ) or liqueur wine (Liquoroso). The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2008 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted within the province of Taranto in the municipalities of Laterza , Mottola , Crispiano and Martina Franca and in parts of the municipalities of Castellaneta , Ginosa , Palagianello , Massafra , Statte and Grottaglie .

The appellation Colline Joniche Tarantine provides for the following types of wine and their grape varieties:

  • Colline Joniche Tarantine Bianco and colline Joniche Tarantine Bianco sparkling wine: have at least 50% from the vine variety Chardonnay be prepared. The remaining maximum 50% white grape varieties (individually or together) must be approved for cultivation in the “Salento - Arco Jonico” production zone.
  • Colline Joniche Tarantine Verdeca: must be made from at least 85% Verdeca grapes . The remaining maximum 15% white grape varieties (individually or together) must be approved for cultivation in the “Salento - Arco Jonico” production zone.
  • Colline Joniche Tarantine Rosato , Colline Joniche Tarantine Rosso , Colline Joniche Tarantine Novello and Colline Joniche Tarantine Rosso Superiore: must be made with at least 50% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes . The remaining maximum 50% red grape varieties (individually or together) must be approved for cultivation in the “Salento - Arco Jonico” production zone.
  • Colline Joniche Tarantine Primitivo , Colline Joniche Tarantine Primitivo Superiore , Colline Joniche Tarantine Primitivo Liquoroso secco and Colline Joniche Tarantine Primitivo Liquoroso-Vino dolce naturale: must be made from at least 85% of the Primitivo grape variety . The remaining maximum 15% red grape varieties (individually or together) must be approved for cultivation in the “Salento - Arco Jonico” production zone.
