Matino (wine)

The name Matino stands for red and rosé wines from the southern Italian municipality of Matino in the province of Lecce in the Apulia region . The wines have had a protected designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1971 , the last update of which was published on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

Cultivation is permitted within the province of Lecce in the municipality of Matino and in parts of the municipalities of Parabita , Alezio , Taviano , Casarano , Melissano , Tuglie and Gallipoli .

Matino Rosato

  • Color: deep pink with light golden reflections after the first year
  • Odor: slightly vinous
  • Taste: dry, characteristic, harmonious
  • Alcohol content: at least 11.5  % by volume

Matino Rosso

  • Color: ruby red with orange reflections due to aging
