It is one of the first universities in China to run a graduate school and has received privileged grants from the Chinese government in the “Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Five-Year Plan”. history

Yan'an Academy of Sciences, 1940s

The predecessor of the Technical University of Beijing is the Yan'an Academy for Science, the first academy for science founded in January 1940 by the Chinese Communist Party . In 1943, the Yan'an Academy of Sciences was merged with Yan'an University to form the Yan'an Academy of Sciences (延安 大學 自然科學 院). In January 1946 and January 1947, the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Industrial Vocational School (晉察冀 邊區 工業 專門 學校) and the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border Industrial Traffic College (晉察冀 邊區 工業 交通 學院) were added. In 1948 the academy became a part of North China University as a technology school. In 1950, various science and technology departments of the Sino-French University Beijing (北平 中法 大學) were included in the school.

In 1951 the school separated from North China University. Some departments have been closed and transferred to other universities according to the Chinese government's disciplinary adjustment policy. For example, the biology department came to the Chinese Agricultural University and parts of the aviation department supported the new Beijing Aerospace University .

In 1952 the school got its current name. In 1959, the TH Beijing was named by the Chinese government as one of the 16 national key universities that were granted the right to issue graduate degrees. Although research was largely halted during the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976, the TH Beijing in 1978 was still one of 88 key universities. In 1984 the Technical University of Beijing was one of the 25 key universities that received special support from the Chinese government as part of the seventh five-year plan . In the same year, it was one of the first 22 Chinese universities to be authorized to run graduate schools on a trial basis.

In the early 1980s, the Faculty of Economics was founded. In 1988 the institution changed its Chinese name from "Beijing Technical University" to "Beijing Technical University" while the English name remained unchanged. In 1991 it was selected as one of 14 universities for the eighth five-year plan. In December 1995 she was among the first 15 participants in Project 211 . In 1996 the TU was allowed to officially operate graduate schools as one of the first 32 Chinese universities, and in the same year it was selected with 26 other key universities for the ninth five-year plan. In 1999, the Chinese Ministry of Education rated the education of the undergraduates as “excellent”. In 2000, the Technical University of Beijing was included in Project 985's list of the top ten Chinese universities to receive support in developing domestic universities with international fame. In the same year, as at 21 other universities, the “21st Century Education Promotion” program was started as part of the tenth five-year plan.
