The Benz Dos-à-dos (back to back) was the successor to the large Benz patented motor vehicle Victoria . For the first time, the previously exclusively used term patent motor vehicle was dropped.

The vehicles were exclusively equipped with four-stroke boxer engines with two cylinders, which Benz called contra engines . There were differently strong engines:

Construction period Displacement Bore × stroke power at speed
1899-1900 1710 cc 100 mm × 110 mm 5 HP (3.7 kW) 940 min −1

The wagons had wooden spoke wheels with solid rubber or pneumatic tires and rigid axles with fully elliptic leaf springs . They were with a three-stage countershaft transmission with reverse gear equipped, which was connected with chains to both rear wheels. A maximum speed of between 35 and 40 km / h could be achieved.

There were various four-seater superstructures, e.g. B. Dos-à-Dos, My Lord and Phaeton américain . The sales prices were between 3800, - and 7800, -.
