The Benz 10/25 PS was added to the smaller Benz 10/20 PS as the next larger model in 1912 . In the same year the car received a more powerful engine and was sold as the Benz 10/30 PS . This initially disappeared for three years after the First World War , but reappeared in 1921. From 1926 it was again given a more powerful engine as the Benz 10/35 PS .
The car was equipped with a four cylinder in-line engine with 2610 cc capacity, the 25 HP (18 kW) at 1600 min -1 developed. The engine power was passed on to a four-speed gearbox via a leather cone clutch and from there to the rear wheels via a cardan shaft. The top speed was 68–71 km / h, the fuel consumption 15–17 l / 100 km. Even in 1912 there was a more powerful engine, a power of 30 hp (22 kW) at 1750 on the same engine min -1 gave. At the same time, there was a sports runabout with a wheelbase that was 100 mm shorter. The engine block was cast in one piece (all four cylinders ), not the cylinders in pairs as was customary at the time.
The vehicles had leaf suspension and rigid axles at the front and rear as well as wooden spoke wheels.
During the First World War, the 10/30 PS was continued to be built in small numbers. The Benz 14/30 hp was much more in demand in the war years because it had more displacement with the same output. The military believed that a 3500cc engine was more robust than the 2600cc engine on the 10/30 hp. At the end of the First World War, production was initially stopped. (It is possible that a few cars were made from parts between 1918 and 1921; the relevant documents were lost in World War II .).
In 1921 the Benz 10/30 PS reappeared in the Benz brochure. The continuing large engine had received another cooling system (thermosiphon rather than pump) and now rendered its 30 hp at 2000 min -1 . After another increase in capacity to 35 hp at 2500 min -1 , the car was known until the end of production in 1927 Benz 10/35 hp.
Its successor was the Mercedes-Benz 8/38 hp .
