description
The Benz Velo was added to the Benz Patent Motor Car Victoria from 1893 as a smaller model. It was also equipped with a single-cylinder engine in the rear. The engine had a displacement of 1045 cm³ (bore × stroke = 110 mm × 110 mm).
The performance developed as follows:
- 1894 1.5 HP (1.1 kW) at 450 min -1
- 1896: 2.75 hp (2.1 kW) at 600 min -1
- 1900: 3 hp (2.2 kW) at 700 min -1
- 1901 3.5 HP (2.6 kW) at 800 min -1
At first there was a surface carburetor and an inductor for the ignition, but from 1896 a float carburetor and battery ignition were offered. From this point on, there was also a crank handle to start the machine.
A two-speed transmission passed the engine power on to the rear wheels. From 1896 there was also an optional third gear and reverse gear. From 1900 both were included in the series.
Between 1894 and 1900 the cars were sold as Velo (Velociped) for 2000 to 2200 22 , from 1896 to 1901 there was the Comfortable (Velociped Comfortable) for 2500 to 2800 ℳ. A total of 1200 vehicles of these types were built.
