He was then excommunicated by Pope Julius II on October 24, 1511 with the Cardinals Federico Sanseverino , Francesco Borgia , Guillaume Briçonnet and René de Prie and lost his cardinal title and all other titles. The council then met with the support of King Ludwig XII. of France and Emperor Maximilian I and declared Pope Julius II deposed. Carvajal took his place as Martin VI. a.

The French were defeated by the Holy League convened by Pope Julius . The Holy League was an alliance against France and was signed on January 20, 1511 between Pope Julius II, the Republic of Venice , Emperor Maximilian, Henry VIII of England , Ferdinand II of Aragon and the Swiss cantons . At the Fifth Lateran Council convened by the Pope in Rome on May 3 , the participants in the Council of Pisa were condemned as schismatics. Emperor Maximilian recognized the Pope again and also King Ludwig XII. distanced himself from the renegade cardinals. On February 21, 1513 Julius II died.
