Bertrand Free Life

Bertrand Freiesleben (born October 4, 1967 in Lübeck ) is a German artist .

Life

His father is a medical microbiologist and his mother is a hand weaver. They encouraged his musical and creative talent at an early stage. The personal exchange with Henry Moore and Emilio Vedova in the 1980s influenced his career choice.

After graduating from high school at the Johanneum in Lübeck and doing community service , Freieleben studied sculpture at the Muthesius University in Kiel from 1988 to 1990 . He broke off his sculpture studies and went to New York from 1991 to 1992, where he dealt exclusively with conceptual art. Back in Germany, he studied art history and philosophy at the FU in Berlin from 1992 to 1998 . a. with Volker Manuth and Reiner Haussherr (Magister). From 1997 to 2005 he taught at the Art History Institute of the Free University of Berlin. In 2000 he was visiting professor at the University of Paris VIII . Since the mid-1990s, Freieleben has mainly devoted itself to portrait sculpture. As a chronicler, he works on the living model and develops thematic portrait series with personalities.

Bertrand Freiesleben is married to the painter Eva Scheide. You have three children and live in Berlin.
