history

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate Nordtonking on June 1, 1883 out of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Osttonking . On December 31, 1913, it lost part of its territory in favor of the Apostolic Prefecture of Lang Son and Cao Bang .

On November 3, 1924, it became part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Yunnan and took the name of Apostolic Vicariate Bắc Ninh. With the Apostolic Constitution Venerabilium Nostrorum , it was elevated to a diocese on November 24, 1960.
