Brzezina (German: Bresina ) is a village in Poland in Upper Silesia in the municipality of Strzelce Opolskie (Groß Strehlitz) in the Powiat Strzelecki in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location
Brzezina is four kilometers southeast of the municipality and the district town of Strzelce Opolskie and 35 kilometers southeast of the voivodeship capital Opole .

history
The place was first mentioned in 1223 as "Bresini".
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 41 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 27 for Poland. Bresina remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 124 inhabitants. On September 26, 1935 the place was renamed Nieder Birken . On September 1, 1936, the municipality and place Nieder Birken were incorporated into the city of Groß Strehlitz. In 1939 the place had 131 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Groß Strehlitz .
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Brzezina and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . On January 1, 1962, Brzezina was removed from the city of Strzelce Opolskie and incorporated into the Strzelce Opolskie municipality. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Strzelecki .
