The Gmina Strzelce Opolskie (German municipality Groß Strehlitz ) is an urban-and-rural municipality in the Opole Voivodeship in the powiat Strzelce Opolskie . The community has about 33,000 inhabitants, its seat is the city of the same name with over 18,000 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the east of the Opole Voivodeship and in central Upper Silesia . The community is located in the middle of the Powiat and east of Opole . The municipality borders on the Silesian Voivodeship to the east .

The administration is headed by a mayor who is directly elected by the population every four years. The 2018 mayoral election led to the following result:
- Tadeusz Goc (Strzelce Land Election Committee) 51.6% of the vote
- Henryk Rudner ( German Minority Election Committee ) 31.4% of the vote
- Jan Chabraszewski ( Prawo i Sprawiedliwość ) 17.1% of the vote
Goc was thus re-elected as mayor in the first ballot.
The election of the 21-member municipal council on the same day produced the following results:
- Strzelce Land Election Committee 41.3% of the vote, 11 seats
- Election committee German minority 19.9% of the votes, 4 seats
- Koalicja Obywatelska (KO) 17.7% of the vote, 3 seats
- Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) 12.7% of the vote, 2 seats
- Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej (SLD) / Lewica Razem (Razem) 8.4% of the vote, 1 seat
population
According to the 2002 census, 13.6% of the Polish population in the Strzelce Opolskie commune are of German nationality and 4.7% of the population stated that they are Silesian.
