history

As a result of World War II , Leschnitz came to Poland. A minority of German origin was able to survive in the region. According to the Polish census of 2002, 28.17% of the community population belong to the German minority , another 7.43% describe themselves as " Silesians ". The mayor and 12 of 15 members of the Leschnitz City and Municipal Council were elected in the local elections in 2010 from the electoral list of the German minority.

The municipality approved German as an auxiliary language in 2006 and introduced bilingual place names in 2008.

In the 2018 local elections, Mayor Łukasz Jastrzembski was re-elected by the election committee for the German minority with 76.6% of the vote. Only one candidate ran for the municipal council in each of the 15 single-person constituencies, so that there was nowhere a controversial election. A representative of the German minority came into play in 13 constituencies, while Polish candidates from the other two constituencies moved into the municipal council.
