Ligota Dolna (German: Nieder Ellguth ) is a village in Poland in Upper Silesia in the municipality of Strzelce Opolskie (Groß Strehlitz) in the Powiat Strzelecki in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Ligota Dolna is located 12 kilometers west of the municipality and the district town Strzelce Opolskie and 25 kilometers southeast of the voivodeship capital Opole .

history

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 68 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 56 for Poland. Nieder Ellguth remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 159 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 134 inhabitants.

In 1925 an airfield for gliders was built on the Steinberg near Nieder Ellguth. The airfield was followed by the construction of the Oberschlesien glider pilot's home . The airfield was taken over by the National Socialist Air Corps in the 1930s . At the beginning of the war on September 1, 1939, Stuka took off from another airfield near Nieder Ellguth to bomb the nearby Polish city of Wieluń .

Until 1945 the place was in the district of Groß Strehlitz . In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Ligota Dolna and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Strzelecki .

Attractions

  • South of Ligota Dolna is a lime kiln that has been preserved to this day . Is located at the front of which an Icarus - relief , which commemorates the death of a pilot at this point. This relief, which represented the symbol of the National Socialist Air Corps (NSFK), was attached after a pilot with his glider crashed into this lime kiln in 1938.
