Steineck Castle

The castle Steineck , even Steinegg called, is a Outbound hilltop castle at 660  m above sea level. NN on a wooded hill about 200 meters south of Steinighof near the Raitbach district of the town of Schopfheim in the Lörrach district in Baden-Württemberg . There are no more traces of the former castle complex.

Up until the late 18th century there is no evidence of a fortification at this point, which is therefore probably a later date. In 1859 the ruins were demolished, the castle hill leveled for agricultural use, and the stones of the castle were used as building material. There is a risk of confusion with the nearby castle ruins of Burgholz , which were also known as Steineck in the 16th and 17th centuries .
