Henschenberg ruins

The ruin Henschenberg is the ruin of a spur castle on the Henschenberg west of the city of Zell im Wiesental in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg .

location

Northwest of the Unterer Henschenberg residential area and southwest of the Oberer Henschenberg residential area between Fischbach and Henschenbach about 130 meters north of the confluence of the Fischbach and the Henschenbach. The best way to get there is from Zell via the Gresgener Weg.

description

From the extensive castle complex a neck ditch as well as wall and building remains still exist today. The latter probably belong to an earlier residential tower , a bering and another, as yet unidentifiable building. In addition, there is surface rubble with ceramic and brick remains from the 14th and 15th centuries, which indicates that the castle was still inhabited around 1400. The complex was probably built in the 12th or 13th century, but so far no excavations have been carried out that could provide more detailed information.

history

Little is known about the history of the castle. While some researchers assume that the ruins on the Henschenberg are the ruins of the documented Altenstein Castle of the Lords of Stein , others identify the Altenstein with an abandoned castle near the hamlet of Altenstein (see Altenstein Castle ) and thus on the District of Häg-Ehrsberg .
