Bürgle

The Bürgle , also called Enkenstein Castle , is an abandoned spur castle near Enkenstein , a district of Schopfheim in the Lörrach district in Baden-Württemberg .

location

The Burgstall lies on a wooded 478  m above sea level. NN high mountain head over Enkenstein, the Schlossberg. It can be reached via the district road K 6348 (Maibergstrasse) from Enkenstein to Hausen im Wiesental . A forest path branches off the road about 300 meters northeast of the farmsteads in Brodenloch. After another 300 meters you will reach the Burgstall.

history

To this day, very little is known about this small castle complex, and historical evidence is also completely lacking. The name of the castle was probably preserved in Enkenstein, first mentioned in 1392, which is probably the former castle hamlet. The place used to belong to the Vogtei Tegernau , and later to the Vogtei Langenau , and was part of the Landgraviate of Sausenburg .

There is no evidence of a noble family from Enkenstein, only people from , on or on the En (g) kenstein were mentioned, which underlines the assumption of a castle name. Enkenstein came into the possession of the Röttler sideline of those von Rotenberg, then to the monastery of Sankt Blasien .

The castle was previously counted as an outpost of Rotenburg Castle . It was probably more of an independent, small castle complex. At most, the courtyard in Brodenloch belonged to the castle.

description

The mountain spur plateau is 40 to 50 meters long and 10 to 20 meters wide. The slopes of the plateau are steep and there is only natural access to the west. This access was secured by a neck ditch , which today is partially filled and can hardly be seen. During an inspection in 2007, fragments of brick blocks, some of which still show traces of masonry mortar, were found.
