Neu-Waldeck Castle

The Castle Neu-Waldeck , Schloss Tegernau called, is a Outbound hilltop castle on 455  m above sea level. NHN near Tegernau in the municipality of Kleines Wiesental in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg .

The owners of the small castle mentioned in the 12th century were the Lords of Waldeck . 1149 confirmed the Roman-German King Konrad III. the Bishop of Basel Ortlieb von Frohburg the possession of the castles Alt- and Neu-Waldeck, which had come to him by donation. Sanblasic sources from the 16th century suggest that at least one of the two aforementioned castles Alt- and Neu-Waldeck near Tegernau in the Kleiner Wiesental must be sought. There, south of the southern exit of the village, there are indications of two castle sites, the "Schloss Tegernau" near the exit of the village and the "Krandelburg" further south. Werner Meyer suggested that the castle, which is closer to the village, be viewed as Alt-Waldeck, and the one a little further away as Neu-Waldeck. This is also supported by ceramic finds near the castle, which is closer to the site, which indicate an earlier foundation. A fiefdom description from the 15th century, in which Alt-Waldeck is used as a place name, suggests that the "Tegernau Castle" closer to Tegernau was Neu-Waldeck, while the "Krandelburg" further south was formerly Alt-Waldeck was called.

On this basis, "Schloss Tegernau", which is regarded as Neu-Waldeck Castle, is located on an elongated rock spur southwest of Tegernau. Ceramic finds can be dated to the 10th to 13th centuries, there are also 3 neck trenches and the remains of a medieval wall .
