history
The builders of the castle, first mentioned in 1178, were probably the Lords of Urslingen , whose ancestral seat was the castle and who began a career with Konrad in the Staufer Empire. He was not only made Duke of Spoleto , but even served temporarily as Imperial Regent of Sicily . Konrad lost the Duchy of Spoleto with the death of Henry VI. (1197) returned to the Curia, but left the inheritance claim to the sons. In an attempt to regain the duchy, Rainald von Urslingen was appointed imperial deputy in Italy and Sicily during the Fifth Crusade . Rainald fell out of favor with the emperor in 1230 and was imprisoned because of alleged irregularities in the financial administration. In 1233 the people of Ursling were given free withdrawal from Sicily, but their goods were confiscated. Rainald remained in the Papal States, part of the family moved back to their Swabian homeland. The title of duke was retained for them, but the ownership of goods was also reduced here: the family castle was in the hands of Württemberg as early as 1327 . Reinold VI remained from the acquisitions . , the last Duke of Urslingen, only Schiltach , which he sold to Württemberg in 1381. According to one chronicler, he died a poor, depraved beggar duke .
Remnants of walls are still preserved from the former castle, which was destroyed in the 16th century.
