The Unione Sportiva Avellino 1912 SpA (formerly US Avellino , Avellino Calcio.12 and AS Avellino 1912 ) is an Italian football club from the Campanian city of Avellino .
The club colors are green and white. The club's stadium is the Stadio Partenio-Adriano Lombardi , with space for 10,215 spectators.
history
The association was founded in December 1912, the first president was Alfonso Di Marzio Capozzi, a wealthy sulfur mine owner . The game was played on a soccer field in the middle of Avellino so that the surrounding residents had a good view of the field. Until the 1972/73 season Avellino played in Serie C or D with varying successes. 1972/73 succeeded under president and coach Antonio Sibilia Gianmarinaro Tony the promotion to Serie B , the greatest success in the club's history up to then. This success was achieved with 62 points and a goal difference of 64:18, whereby the club remained undefeated. The greatest success was ten years of uninterrupted membership in Serie A from 1978 to 1988 . During this time the stadium even offered space for 42,000 spectators. The club experienced the greatest soaring with eighth place in the 1981/82 and 1986/87 seasons .
After relegation to Serie B, a time began when Avellino kept switching between her and Serie C. The 2008/09 season ended Avellino as the penultimate team in Serie B and had to relegate, but the Covisoc (Commissione di Vigilanza sulle Società Calcistiche- monitoring committee of football clubs) announced that Avellino can not meet the necessary financial conditions for professional football and therefore out of professional football must retire. Since the club did not call against it, US Avellino had to relegate to Serie D, the highest Italian amateur class, where they qualified as 5th for the promotion. Currently (as of August 2017) Avellino plays in Serie B , the second highest Italian league.
