Carlos Gruezo , whose full name is Carlos Armando Gruezo Arboleda (born April 19, 1995 in Santo Domingo ), is an Ecuadorian soccer player who is under contract with FC Augsburg in the German Bundesliga .

Career

Gruezo started playing football at Unión Deportiva Juvenil and was signed by LDU Quito at the age of 14 . A year later he played for Defensor Sporting Club in Uruguay for one season . In 2010 he returned to Ecuador and played for Independiente . After he had played his first senior games there, Gruezo moved to the first division club Barcelona SC Guayaquil in 2012 . In his first season with Barcelona SC Guayaquil he was Ecuadorian champion . He was chosen as the best team of 2012 by the Ecuadorian Players Association.

In January 2014 he took part in the VfB Stuttgart training camp in the South African capital, Cape Town , on a trial basis . VfB Stuttgart signed him on January 30, 2014 and provided him with a contract dated June 30, 2018. He made his Bundesliga debut on March 27, 2014 (27th matchday) when he was substituted on for Gōtoku Sakai in the 0-2 away defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg in the 68th minute . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on November 28, 2014 (13th matchday) in a 4-1 win in the away game against SC Freiburg with the goal to make it 2-1 in the 53rd minute.

On January 23, 2016, Carlos Gruezo moved to FC Dallas . For the Texans , the Ecuadorian was used 113 times in all competitions.

For the 2019/20 Bundesliga season , FC Augsburg signed the midfielder and provided him with a five-year contract.

National team

Gruezo retired at the U17 World Cup 2011 with Ecuador's U17 selection in the round of 16 against the selection of Brazil . At the U20 South American Championships in 2013 he reached sixth place with the national team .

On May 14, 2014, he was appointed to the provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup . On May 17, 2014, he made his debut in the senior national team , which drew 1-1 against the Netherlands in the Amsterdam Arena . He was named to Ecuador's final squad for the World Cup finals in Brazil on June 2, 2014 .
