Icona Pop ( English : / aɪkɒnə pɒp / ; ital. Pop star ) is a Swedish electro - duo . It consists of the singers Aino Jawo (born July 7, 1986 ) and Caroline Hjelt (born November 8, 1987 ).

Jawo and Hjelt attended the same music high school Rytmus Musikergymnasiet in Stockholm , but only met in 2009 at a party given by Hjelt. The two friends initially appeared mainly as DJs .

In 2011 the duo released the song Mind Your Manners from their album Breakfast together with the US hip-hop group Chiddy Bang . It rose to number 11 on the Australian singles chart and achieved double platinum status . The EP Nights like This was released in November of that year . In spring 2012 they released their second EP called Iconic . In 2012, Icona Pop released I Love It, their first single. The song climbed to number 2 on the Swedish charts. In the three German-speaking countries, I Love It reached the top 10 thanks to its use as music in a commercial for Coca Cola light, and in Austria and Germany it even reached 3rd place.

On September 11, 2012, the second single We Got the World was released in Sweden , which reached number 29. In 2012 Icona Pop was the opening act on the Lonely Hearts Club Tour by Marina and the Diamonds . On November 14, 2012, her debut album Icona Pop was released in her home country.

On January 18, 2013 Icona Pop performed as a live act on the Michalsky Stylenite by Berlin fashion designer Michael Michalsky . The appearance was broadcast on the Internet via live stream and could be seen on the FAZ.net, Bild.de and Vogue.de websites, among others.

On February 20, 2013 Icona Pop was awarded the Swedish Grammis Music Prize in the Best Newcomer category.

In July 2013 Icona Pop announced their new single All Night . The video clip for the single girlfriend also celebrated its premiere.

On September 24, 2013 Icona Pop released their debut album, which is called This Is… Icona Pop .

The single Emergency is one of the songs in the video game FIFA 16.
