Sooyoung (born February 10, 1990 in Gwangju ), full name Choi Soo-young , is a South Korean singer , actress , model and member of the girl group Girls' Generation .

Life

Sooyoung ( 수영 ) has an older sister named Soojin ( 수진 ) who is a musical actress.

Sooyoung graduated from Jungshin Women High School ( 정신 여자 고등학교 ) on February 11, 2009, and Chung-Ang University ( 중앙 대학교 ) on February 15, 2016 .

Sooyoung is fluent in both her native Korean and Japanese .

Career

It was discovered in 2000 at the SM Open Audition . Then she was cast at the Korea Japan Ultra Female Duo Audition 2002 and from April of that year together with Marina Takahashi formed the J-Pop duo route 0. The band was produced by Kawamura Ryuichi and released three singles in Japan : "Painting", "Waku! Waku! It's Love ”and“ START ”. The duo also modeled for the Chubbygang clothing line before the group split up in mid-2003.

She then returned to South Korea and appeared together with Park Jung-a ( 박정아 ) in a commercial for Samsung Anycall. In addition, she continues to model, among other things for Skoolooks Uniform (2004) and at the side of her Girls'-Generation bandmate Yoona for the 08-09 F / W SFAA Seoul Collection - Lee Ju-yeong Fashion Show (08-09 F / W SFAA 서울 콜레 션 - 이주영 패션쇼 ) at Seoul Hakyohul Exhibition Hall on March 20, 2008.

In 2005 the song "I am" was released, which Sooyoung sang for the Korean soundtrack of the anime series Inu Yasha . In the same year, she also worked as a VJ on Mnet's Hello Chat show with Super Junior's Kangin . From July 2007 to January 2008 she then presented the radio show Cheonbang Jichuk ( 천방지축 ) together with Sungmin from Super Junior.

On July 10, 2007, she was introduced as another member of SM Entertainment's new girl group, called Girls' Generation . In addition to the numerous appearances with her group, she continues to have many solo activities, e.g. B. in television programs.

2007 played Sooyoung a supporting role in the KBS - sitcom Unstoppable Wedding ( 못말리는 결혼 ). She had another, slightly larger supporting role in 2008 in the romantic comedy Hello Schoolgirl ( 순정 만화 ; Sunjeong Manhwa ). In 2009 she was the presenter of the MBC program Hwansangui Jjakkkung ( 환상 의 짝꿍 ) together with O Sang-jin.

On August 8, 2008, the Trot song “Must!” (“ 꼭 ”, “ Kkok ”) by Sooyoung and her bandmate Yuri was released, which serves as the opening song of the television series Working Mom ( 워킹 맘 ). On May 14, 2009 the EP The First Memories by The Blue was released, which also contains the song "Neomaneul Neukkimyeo" (" 너 만을 느끼며 ") with Sooyoung and her bandmate Tiffany .

Furthermore, she and her bandmates Seohyun and Yuri had a photo shoot with QTV on October 11, 2009 for the project "Dreaming Water". This is a campaign by UNICEF and Cosmopolitan to preserve the environment and clean water.

On March 7, 2010, she appeared with her bandmates Hyoyeon and Jessica in the TV series Oh! My Lady ( 오! 마이 레이디 ) from SBS . She has also starred in the television series The Third Hospital and The Spring Day of My Life .

Girls' generation

The South Korean girls 'group Girls' Generation ( 소녀 시대 ; 少女 時代 ) was founded in 2007 by SM Entertainment . Their first single Into the New World was released on August 2, 2007, and their first official appearance was on the music show Inkigayo ( 인기 가요 ) on August 5, 2007. The first album Girls' Generation was the first of a girl group since 2002 that sold over 100,000 times in South Korea. The group was able to build on this success with the following album and EPs.

In 2009 the group achieved a huge success with the title Gee . With the song, the group set a new record in the KBS telecast Music Bank on by reaching the top spot nine consecutive weeks. At the end of 2009, Girls' Generation began their Asian tour called Into the new world in Seoul. Since August 2010 the group has been increasingly active in Japan and achieved gold status with their two published singles. The group members are also popular advertising media for Samyang Ramen, Caribbean Bay Water Park and the city of Seoul.

On August 28, 2011, she suffered a in a car accident sacral fracture . Therefore, she will not be able to participate in the concerts of the SMTown World Tour in Tokyo from September 2nd to 4th and the Taiwanese concert of the Girls' Generation Tour from September 9th to 11th, 2011.
