The 1996/97 season was the sixth regular season of the Colonial Hockey League . The ten teams completed 74 encounters each in the regular season . The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Flint Generals , while the Quad City Mallards won the Colonial Cup for the first time in the play-offs .
