The Communauté d'agglomération Grand Châtellerault is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It was founded on December 24, 1993 and currently comprises 47 parishes. The administrative headquarters are in the city of Châtellerault .

Historical development

With effect from January 1, 2017, the number of municipalities was increased from 12 to currently 47. This took place through the dissolution of the community associations

• Communauté de communes Les Portes du Poitou ,
• Communauté de communes des Vals de Gartempe et Creuse and
• Communauté de communes du Lencloîtrais ,

of which, however, the municipalities of La Bussière and Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé joined another association of municipalities.

The association originally founded as the Communauté d'agglomération du Pays Châtelleraudais was renamed to its current name with effect from January 1, 2018.
