The Communauté urbaine du Grand Poitiers is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté urbaine in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It was founded on January 1, 2017 and comprises 40 parishes. The administrative headquarters are in the city of Poitiers .

Historical development

The community association was created with effect from January 1, 2017 through the merger of the predecessor organizations

• Communauté d'agglomération Grand Poitiers ,
• Communauté de communes de Vienne et Moulière ,
• Communauté de communes du Pays Mélusin and
• Communauté de communes du Val Vert du Clain with the simultaneous formation of the Communes nouvelles Beaumont-Saint-Cyr and Jaunay-Marigny .

In addition, four parishes of the dissolved Communauté de communes du Pays Chauvinois joined the community association. Despite the similarity of the name to one of the predecessor organizations, it is a new establishment with a different legal personality.

The association, originally founded as Grand-Poitiers Communauté d'agglomération , was raised to the legal form of a Communauté urbaine with effect from January 1, 2018 and renamed to the current name.
