coat of arms

Blazon : A silver lamb standing in blue.

The pastor and chronicler Nicolin Sererhard reports that in 1622 a beautiful snow-white lamb appeared in the church at Conters , which caused the population to revolt against Austrian rule.

geography

Conters is located on the southern side of the valley of the central Prättigau around two kilometers east of Küblis . The municipal area stretches from the Landquart over the largely wooded slope, which is structured by several torrents, to the extensive alpine meadows on the Durannapass ( 2117  m above sea level ), which leads as a mule track into Schanfigg . The highest point is the Chistenstein (2473 m) in the very south-west of the territory.

The community consists of the compact clustered village Conters (1110 m), which is elevated above the confluence of the Schwarzbach and Wissbach , and the hamlet of Brunnen (982 m) on the road to Küblis. There are also numerous individual farms and mountain pastures .

Of the total municipal area of 1840 hectares, 909 hectares are used for agricultural purposes. The majority of them are alpine farms. In addition, 827 ha are covered by forest and wood, 81 ha of unproductive area (mostly mountains) and 23 ha of settlement area.

Conters borders on Arosa , Fideris , Klosters-Serneus and Küblis .

history

The place mentioned in 1290 as Cunters belonged to the three leagues of the monastery court of the Ten Courts Association. The Walsers who immigrated from Klosters caused the change from Rhaeto-Romanic to German in the 15th century .

population

Of the 217 residents at the end of 2004, 206 (= 94.93%) were Swiss citizens.

Municipal council

The mayor is Andrea Nold (as of 2010).

Economy and Transport

In the rural community, animal husbandry and forestry continue to play a major role. In terms of tourism, Conters has a share in the Parsenn ski region : the village is located directly on the Parsenn run with its destination in Küblis, and the valley station of the Schifer – Weissfluhjoch gondola is only a few meters east of the municipal boundary near the Conterser Schwendi mountain . There is an inn in the village and several mountain houses in the Schwendi.

The community has been connected to the public transport network since 1947 by a post bus line to Küblis. At the beginning of the 1980s, the connecting road was expanded.

As part of the Swiss sponsorship for mountain communities, there has been a long-term collaboration with the Zurich community of Embrach .

Attractions

The reformed village church is a listed building .

Others

Nicolin Sererhard , who was married to a Conterserin, mentioned in his Einfalten delineation in 1742 also the “Conterser Bock” fasting dish traditionally served on Good Friday . Although the recipe is still known today, the dish that is less in line with modern eating habits is rarely prepared. A hard-boiled egg is dipped in an omelette batter and fried while floating in the fat. The egg is then turned again in the batter and fried. This is continued until the "buck" has reached the desired size. A wine sauce is served with it.
