In 1697 the then pastor Peter Walser was murdered after the sermon in Valzeina on the way home to Grüsch. Therefore, the place where he died is called Mördertobäli (Mördertobel).

In the Helvetic Republic , the valley, which was previously and subsequently distributed over several jurisdictions, belonged to the district of the lower Landquart of the canton of Rhaetia . The municipality of Hintervalzeina , which had been independent since 1851 and previously belonged to Trimmis , merged in 1891 with the municipality of Vordervalzeina, which was expanded in 1876 by the Sigg department, which had been replaced by Grüsch .
