Cyrus Rahbar

Cyrus Rahbar (born June 8, 1971 in Damme , Lower Saxony ) is a German actor .

Life

Childhood and youth

Rahbar was born to a German mother and a Persian father. He grew up in Wuppertal , where his father had settled as a doctor. He was interested in the theater at an early age and began his first steps in the independent theater scene in Wuppertal. He played at the Children's and Youth Theater Wuppertal (1987–1990), the Junge Podium Wuppertal (1990/1991) and the Neue Wuppertaler Theatergruppe (1993/1994); there he took over the title role in the play Roberto Zucco by Bernard-Marie Koltès .

After graduating from high school, he also worked as a performance artist and devoted himself to the fine arts . He also completed an internship as a make-up artist at the Wuppertaler Bühnen and then worked as a make-up artist at the Wuppertal Opera (1991/1992). He also attended the Wuppertaler Werkstatt eV from 1991 to 1994 and was taught ballet , modern dance and tap dance .

From 1992 to 1995 Rahbar first studied German , literature and philosophy at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal ; there he took over the management of the student theater group for several months in 1993; however, he eventually dropped out to devote himself entirely to acting.

Acting career

From 1995 to 1999 he trained as an actor at the “Freiburg Drama School in E-Werk”. He finished this in 1999 with a degree as an actor with stage maturity and admission to the ZAV artist agency (then ZBF). In parallel to his training, he was already appearing at the Kammerspiele in the E-Werk in Freiburg, where he took on several leading roles. He played there, among other things, the shy, young fellow Florindo in the comedy The Liar by Carlo Goldoni and Tom Wingfield in the play The Glass Menagerie .

He had his first engagement in the 1998/99 season at the Stadttheater Baden-Baden . This was followed by permanent engagements at the Landesbühne Sachsen-Anhalt in Eisleben (1999–2001) and at the Heidelberg Theater (2002–2004).

In the season 1999/00 he played at the Theater Eisleben macho Lucky in the play one on the face of Rainer Hachfeld ; he also appeared there in the 1999/00 season as a pastor in a stage version of the novel Effi Briest . In addition to classic theater roles, Rahbar often took on roles in fairy tales and in children's and youth theater . He played, among others, the Müller Jakob in Rumpelstiltskin , the Prince in Cinderella , Klein Klipp in Ronja the robber's daughter (all Theater Eisleben), Lyschko in Krabat , Slightly in Peter Pan and the Wachtmeister in Pinocchio (all Theater Heidelberg). In 2004 he took over the speaking role of Samiel (Satan) in the opera Der Freischütz at the Heidelberg Theater .

Cyrus Rahbar has been working as a freelance actor since 2004 and has appeared on stages in German-speaking countries. He had guest engagements at the Theater am Puls in Schwetzingen (2004, as secretary Wurm in Kabale und Liebe ), at the Comédie Soleil Theater in Potsdam (2005, as bailiff Monsieur Loyal in Tartuffe ), at the Theater Halle 7 in Munich (season 2005 / 06), at the Zimmertheater Rottweil (2006, as Athos in The Three Musketeers ), at the play in the monument in Koblenz (2007, as Josef Stürmer in Das Mietshaus - 1923 , premiered on the Rathausplatz in Remagen ), at the Lahnstein Municipal Stage (2008 , Lahnstein Castle Festival as Don Guzman di Stibizia in The Great Day or Figaro's Wedding ), at the Harzer Bergtheater in Thale (2009, as Faust in Faust-Saga ), at the summer theater at Alex (2009, Berlin monastery ruins, as Trigorin in Die Möwe ) and at the comedy on the old town market in Braunschweig (season 2009/10, as robber captain Rinaldo in Das Wirtshaus im Spessart ).

In 2010 Rahbar performed at the Bad Vilbel Castle Festival . He played the bastard Hermann in Schiller's play Die Räuber and the post office clerk Rudi in the world premiere of the comedy Calendar Boys by Kay Kruppa and Frank Pinkus. In 2011 he was a guest at the Altzenau Castle Festival as Artus in the world premiere of the play Artus and the Knights of the Round Table . In 2012 he played Hermann Braun, the male title role, in a stage version of the Fassbinder film The Marriage of Maria Braun at the Theater der Brotfabrik Berlin . In June / July 2012 he played the dragon slayer Lanzelot in the open-air production Der Drache by Evgeni Schwarz at the theater marameo in Magdeburg . In the summer of 2013 he was seen at the FACT Theater in Leipzig as Jude Shylock in the summer production The Merchant of Venice . For the Christmas fairy tale A Sheep for Life he was engaged as a wolf in the TUFA theater in Trier in winter 2013/2014 . At the NiederrheinTheater Brüggen he played the dottore in Carlo Goldoni's comedy The Servant of Two Masters in the summer of 2014 . In the winter of 2014 he was a guest at the Trier cloth factory as Baron Lefuet in the youth play Timm Thaler or The Laughing Sale . In the summer of 2015 he played the role of Count Johann von Strack in the play Amadeus at the Ribbeck Castle Festival . In the winter of 2015 he was a guest at the Ohnsorg Theater in Hamburg in the Christmas play The Brave Little Tailor . As father Anton in Michel from Lönneberga , he was seen on the open-air stage of the Spandau Citadel in Berlin in the summer of 2016 . In spring 2017 he played Barry from the play Ladies Night - All or not at the Volksbühne Michendorf; in summer 2017 he played this role at the Altmühlsee Festival in Muhr am See . In autumn 2017 he embodied Michael in Disgust Alfred - one heart and one soul at the Volksbühne Michendorf. In January 2018 he played Doctor Finache in the independent theater production "PIFF! PAFF!" In the Theaterforum Kreuzberg in the social comedy Der Floh im Ohr by Georges Feydeau , directed by Thomas Donndorf . In the spring of 2018 he played Major von Crampas in a theatrical version of the novel Effi Briest by Theodor Fontane in the Capitol Zeitz and in the Neue Theater Zeitz. In Kassel at the end of 2018 he played Petterson at the Theater im Centrum in the Christmas play Pettson, Findus and the cock in the basket . In 2019/20 he appeared at the Piccolo Teatro in Bremerhaven as a university professor Frank in the two-person play Education for Rita by Willy Russel.

Cyrus Rahbar previously worked a. a. together with theater directors Martin Nimz, Annette Büschelberger, Robin Telfer, Mario Andersen, Tonio Kleinknecht, Klaus-Dieter Köhler, Hans Thoenies, Harald Demmer, Florian Burg, Alexander Ourth, Frank Grupe, Thomas Donndorf, Annekatrin Schuch-Greiff and Lars Linnhoff.

Rahbar also took on a few film roles, mostly in short films . However, the focus of his work as an actor is theater work. Rahbar is also active as a speaker for radio plays and audio books , as well as a reciter .

From 2007 to 2009 he was also a member and deputy director of the Berlin jazz and gospel choir The Melodettes, founded in 2007 .

Rahbar is a member of the Federal Drama Association (BFFS) and the German Theater Association (GDBA) and lives in Berlin .
