GDR railway cycling championships 1982

The GDR championships in track cycling were held for the 34th time in 1982 and took place from July 1st to 3rd on the Alfred Rosch arena in Leipzig .

In the men’s race, Detlef Macha from Erfurt successfully defended their titles from the previous year in the points race and Günter Gottlieb who stood up. Lutz Heßlich sprinted to the fourth title, the time trial driver Emanuel Raasch and the quartet of SC Karl-Marx-Stadt won their third championship title. All other winners came to their first championship honors.

In the women’s race, Christa Rothenburger managed a title hat trick in the sprint and 500 m time trial .

The title in the two-man team driving was already determined on May 29th on the Gera Herbert-Liebs-Kampfbahn .

The GDR Winter Course Championships were in 1982 held for the 7th time and place from January 15 to 16 traditional in Werner Seelenbinder hall of East Berlin instead.

At the championships only the Cottbus sprinter Lutz Heßlich was able to defend his title from the previous year.

For the third time since 1979 there was the final of Lutz Heßlich versus Michael Huebner at the GDR championship of track cyclists in sprint . And for the third time the Cottbuser Heßlich prevailed and relegated the defending champion from Karl-Marx-Stadt to second place. For Heßlich, who missed the previous year due to a dental operation, it was the fourth title since 1978. In the battle for third place, Berlin’s Ralf-Guido Kuschy prevailed against World Cup third-place Detlef Uibel in three races .

1000 m time trial

The Berlin Emanuel Raasch (who had decided to start in the time trial only a week before the championship) secured his third championship title after 1975 and 1976 . He relegated the reigning world champions Lothar Thoms and Peter Grünke to their places. Defending champion Maic Malchow came in a respectable fifth place after a long illness.

In the single pursuit 28 drivers started. After the runner-up in the previous year, 21-year-old Bernd Dittert from Berlin won his first title ahead of Harald Wolf, a Karl-Marx-city dweller . In the final, Dittert improved Wolf's track record from 1980. The reigning world champion Detlef Macha failed in the quarter-finals on what would later be third in Gera Gerald Mortag .

In the qualification, which consisted of 25 starters, the best six qualified for the finals. There the Berlin Frank Kühn secured his first title in the single pursuit, in which he overtook the world champion in the street four-man team, Mario Kummer after the 14th of 23 possible rounds. Defending champion Volker Winkler came in eighth place.
