The GDR ice hockey championship in 1982/83 brought few surprises. The SC Dynamo Berlin celebrated its tenth title, which was won similarly impressive as last year. The defeated sports community from Weißwasser had only had a single draw until the final decision on the sixth match day. By the end of the Oberliga series, the Lausitzer managed another draw and an honorary win on the last match day.

After the exciting decision last season, the determination of the best gave their usual picture again. The BSG Monsator Berlin underpinned their reputation as an outstanding amateur team of their time with the seventh title, while hosts Einheit Crimmitschau and Motor Bad Muskau completed the podium as in the previous season.
