history

Since the early Middle Ages, the area of Dahl has belonged to the later Hochstift Paderborn . Dahl was probably founded in the 9th or 10th century as a side courtyard to the main Enenhus farm during the colonization of the Paderborn region. In the year 1000 the Paderborn Cathedral burned down completely together with the cathedral monastery, whereby the entire archive was destroyed. As a result of this catastrophe, many places in the Paderborn region were first mentioned in the 11th century.

Dahl is first mentioned in a document in 1036. In 1231 the village was given to the Provost of Paderborn for spiritual supervision. 1322 is the first mention of a Dahler pastor, Ecbertus, son of the executioner Nycolai from Paderborn. The oldest entry date in church registers still in existence is from 1631. Dompropst Dietrich Adolf von der Reck visits the place in 1650: At that time Dahl had 12 farmhouses, 37 half-span apartments as well as a parsonage and a sexton. Based on statistical considerations, these 51 houses result in a total population of approx. 350 inhabitants. In 1736, four people died in a major flood.

In 1802 the Paderborn bishopric lost its state independence when it was occupied by Prussia , but fell back to the Kingdom of Westphalia for a few years in 1807 and to Prussia in 1813 after the Napoleonic defeat. Dahl is incorporated into the newly founded Province of Westphalia and comes to the newly founded Paderborn district by decree of the Royal Government in Minden . When the districts are divided into offices , Dahl comes to the Kirchborchen office .

The foundation stone for the new Dahler church in neo-Gothic style was laid in 1852, the church was completed in 1854. In 1897 Dahl received its first public telephone connection and in 1913 the first 35 houses in the village received electricity.

In 1921 sports enthusiasts founded the sports club Dahl DJK, which was renamed SV Grün-Weiß Dahl after the Second World War. In 1922 the volunteer fire brigade was founded, and in 1926 the Dahl music association. In the same year, a bus line to Paderborn is opened. One year later, in 1927, the St. Hubert Rifle Brotherhood is founded. In the last days of May 1931 there was a devastating flood of the Ellerbach . On Holy Saturday 1945, March 31, American artillery bombarded the place, 4 people died. After the end of the war, the place had 1150 inhabitants, 410 of whom were evacuated, refugees and displaced persons.

The first new development area was designated in 1953. In 1970 the village completed the shooting range itself.

As part of the North Rhine-Westphalian territorial reform , the previously independent municipality belonging to the Kirchborchen office became effective on January 1, 1975 with the "Law for the reorganization of the municipalities and districts of the Sauerland / Paderborn area ( Sauerland / Paderborn law )" of November 5 1974 merged with the city of Paderborn and the communities of Benhausen, Elsen, Neuenbeken (for the most part), Sande and Schloss Neuhaus to form the new city of Paderborn.
