opening

In a large auditorium , presenter David Nessler receives Josh for an interview. Meanwhile, Josh learns of the arrest of Judge Roberto Mendoza, the president's favorite candidate for the vacant Supreme Court seat . In Leo's office, CJ is also informed about the events. She then asks him how this could happen. Sam assures her that Mendoza does not drink alcohol and that he was arrested for driving a Hispanic car. A moment later, Toby arrives and asks if a bail has already been made, which CJ denies. Leo joins them and orders Sam and Toby to go to Connecticut and free Mendoza from prison.

first act

At the event, Josh is asked what a typical day at the White House is like. Josh says there is no such thing. When asked, he begins to describe the events of the previous two days. The day began by promulgating the education bill recently signed by the president, but it quickly got out of hand. The Minister for Housing and Urban Development described a Republican MP on television as a racist . A failed press event, a dentist's appointment and his own stupidity also played a role.

In a flashback, CJ prepares for a press conference on the new education law. After the preparation, Sam asks her about the time of the press conference, possibly moving it to 1 p.m. She talks about her appointment at 12 noon, which would prevent this measure. He wants her to keep her dentist appointment and postpone the press conference to 2 p.m.

Josh and Toby discuss Minister Deborah O'Leary's comment that MP Jack Wooden is a racist. Mandy walks up and reads the actual wording she uses to describe all members of the Republican Party as racists. In the classroom, Josh explains that the president also needed to be notified of the incident. In a flashback, the president is unhappy about the comment. Leo assures him that he will sort this out. As a result, the President is present at the signing of the Education Act. After he signs, Danny Concannon asks him about O'Leary's comment. After an evasive maneuver, the President admits that O'Leary went too far. With CJ not in the room, the President admits further questions that further aggravate the situation. Finally, Sam ends the Q&A.

While Josh describes the events in the Horsaal, he receives a call from Toby, who got lost with Sam in Connecticut. Since Josh is from Connecticut, they ask him for help. However, he hangs up and consequently tells the audience that the day portrayed in the flashback was going to get even worse as he was about to step into the spotlight.

Second act

In their rental car , Sam and Toby are still looking for the police station. Toby points Sam in the wrong direction, whereupon Sam draws his attention to the supposed North Star in the north. He sees this form of sky navigation as an indication that you are on the right track. Toby insists on turning around on the next exit.

Meanwhile, Minister O'Leary wants to know why the president is asking her to apologize. She still stands by her statement, but has to face the political reality. According to Leo, the government needs the votes from Wooden's committee, including votes for the funds needed by the Building Department. She points out that she is the highest-ranking African American member of the government. According to Leo, however, it is not their first duty to serve the black population, but the president. She will either apologize to Wooden or be fired, said Leo.

Josh said at the event that all of the problems had been resolved, as attention could have been drawn back to the $ 700 million education package. He asks the audience who recently had a root canal treatment , whereupon CJ flashes back into Josh's office and tells him about her emergency procedure. With pain and a numb left side of her mouth, she tells Josh that she cannot conduct the press conference. To CJ's dismay, Josh decides to handle the press conference himself and goes on his way.

Before the press conference, Danny warns Josh not to take over the press conference. Josh defies his recommendation and assures him that as a graduate of the elite Harvard and Yale universities , he will be able to answer press questions with ease. The first question, which deals with the president's smoking habits , he describes as stupid. Shortly afterwards, he falsely proclaims that the president has not smoked in years. A reporter caught him on the wrong foot and said that the president borrowed a cigarette from her just two days ago. He makes another mistake when Danny asks if the president has a plan to fight inflation . Josh confirms this and announces that the plan is secret. As a result, the other reporters ask for additional information about the secret plan.

During a break, Josh learns that Sam and Toby have still not found the police station. So the Pole Star turned out to be an airplane. Josh asks Toby why it is so difficult and has to put up with a counterattack from Toby; Toby requests more information about the president's secret plan. When Sam wants to find out more from local people, Toby discovers the police station.

Third act

At the police station, Sam introduces himself to the police officer on duty and asks him to fetch his superior. As a result, Sam asks the supervisor, Sergeant MacNamara, to let Roberto Mendoza go. MacNamara replies that he is not in the mood for jokes. His colleague shows him the front page of a newspaper with a photo of Toby with the president. Finally, Sam informs his interlocutors that they have arrested a federal judge and nominee for the Supreme Court.

At the event, Josh continued his talk about what happened at the press conference, where reporters continued to pester him with questions about the president's secret plan. He leaves the press conference and meets CJ in his office, who tells him about his mishaps with a contorted face. Sam also enters the room and tells those present about a new problem: a statement from Roberto Mendoza.

In the classroom, Josh explains to the audience that a nominee for a Supreme Court Justice should let the White House do the talking. In the case of Mendoza, however, the staff failed to make this clear to him. Mendoza told a newspaper that it was wrong for the President to ask Minister O'Leary to apologize. After CJ says the president needs to be briefed, Leo assures her that the president will return immediately after an event in New Orleans . On behalf of the staff, Josh admits to blame for most of the day's events. Leo then informs them that the entire staff will meet the president the next morning.

Josh also tells the audience that in the eight weeks following his nomination, Mendoza criticized numerous organizations that had supported the president in the election campaign. Another phone call from Sam informs him that they have arrived and are now specifically addressing the problem. Meanwhile, Toby goes to Mendoza's cell to talk.

Fourth act

The next day, Charlie, who has the second toughest job in the White House after the president, takes over the wake-up call for the president after he'd gone to bed three hours earlier. Josh continues to tell the audience about Mendoza, which has meanwhile been ordered to the White House, but still wants to stock up on antiques in Connecticut.

A while after his wake-up call, Charlie realizes that the President is still in bed. He wakes him up again so that he can later meet his staff in the Oval Office . Here the staff describes the events of the previous day. The President is shocked that Josh took over the press conference for CJ. He gives a lecture to Josh, but is interrupted by Toby, who puts the focus on Mendoza.

At the police station, MacNamara confesses that he stopped Mendoza because of his changing driving style. Sam tells him about Mendoza's chronic hepatitis , so that if he had consumed alcohol he would have died. In the cell, Toby wonders why Mendoza didn't want to undergo an alcohol test. Mendoza replies that there was no reason for that. Instead, he was stopped because he is of Spanish origin. Mendoza resists Toby's attempts to get him out of prison because he wants to face the legal system for which he has worked all his life. He was arrested in front of his son, which he will not forget, as he understands the work of the police better than the work of a judge. Ultimately, Toby manages to convince him by saying that Mendoza's situation would be no different if he were a Supreme Court judge.

Toby steps out of the cell with Mendoza and tells the police that if there is no report or investigation, no one will be suspended. He also called on the officials to apologize to Mendoza and his family. Eventually Josh learns during the event that the situation has been resolved. Josh tells the audience that he can't say anything until Mendoza is confirmed as a judge.
